Gratitude List (May 6, 2023)

Hi everyone on this first Saturday of May. I’m joining Ten Things of Thankful (#TToT) for a gratitude post today. Here we go.

1. I am grateful for a trip to buy some new plants for in our care home garden last Saturday. One of the student staff had been planning on us having a vegetable garden here. While that’s not exactly gone to plan, we do have a few flower beds and some space for vegetables too. I loved helping pick out the first few flowers and plants.

2. I am thankful for new duvet covers. My husband last week told me he needed new ones for our bed in Lobith. Too bad twin bed duvet covers don’t come in cute colors, but those for my single bed do. I got one with rainbows on it and one with butterflies on it.

3. I am grateful for sleep. I have been able to sleep reasonably well over the past couple of days.

4. I am grateful for some success with physical therapy. The physical therapist came by on Wednesday to try to do some yoga exercises with me in order to help me loosen up my muscles. It was hard but rewarding. I am grateful my assigned staff said I can have a staff member with me during physical therapy even when it’s not during my allocated activity time.

5. I am grateful for nice weather on Thursday. We hit 20°C for the first time this year that day.

6. I am grateful for no thunderstorms that I was aware of yesterday. A lot of rain, hail and thunder had been predicted, but thankfully I was indoors when it rained and, insofar as we got any thunder at all, it was far enough away not to make me startle.

7. I am thankful for a lot of compliments on my skirt and shirt that I wore on Thursday. These aren’t really suited to the colder months (unless I find panties or leggings that will go with the skirt, but I only have black panties now). Most clients really liked my outfit. I bought both the skirt and shirt relatively recently.

8. I am grateful for ice cream. On Thursday, two staff took me and another resident to Deventer, the nearest city, to get ice cream. We originally intended to go to a place that’s supposedly really good, but couldn’t find a space to park near there, so decided to go to Talamini, an ice cream chain that’s good too. I had caramel and Kinder Bueno, a candy bar flavor, on a cone. Unfortunately, I did get the ice cream all over my skirt, shirt and into my hair.

9. I am grateful to have been supported by my assigned staff more than usual lately. She also makes it clear that it isn’t like she’d been avoiding me, but that, with all the chaos and crises among other clients and her being a regular employee here, it just isn’t always possible for her to support me regularly.

10. I am thankful I haven’t lost all hope yet. Sometimes, it feels like it, but I am glad I can still appreciate the little things in life.

TGIF: Weather

Hi all. Fridays are usually pretty active in the blogosphere and there are lots of prompts to choose from on this day. Today, I discovered another one, Paula Light’s TGIF. Today, Paula took the opportunity to talk about the weather and for this reason so will I.

Let me start out with the positives: we had some amazingly warm late summer weather early in the week. Not too hot for my liking, although it did get to 30°C on Tuesday, which I understand is too hot for some. Wednesday was the best: some sunshine but some clouds too, no rain and 25°C during the day.

Thankfully, we did get some much-needed rain too. We got a thunderstorm Tuesday night. My Apple Watch registered sound as loud as 82dB during the storm. I wonder how accurate that is, but well.

We also got some rain yesterday as well as today. Today, in fact, it rained most of the day, but I still managed a short walk outside in the morning.

I tried out my orthopedic shoes, which came back from the shoemaker for the umpteenth time. Well, those who’ve read the orthopedic shoe story before can probably guess what’s next. Yes, indeed, I did get another small blister on my right heel after a walk of not even 20 minutes. I’ve told you guys before that the shoes won’t be fixed until 2034 and I’m more and more confident I’m correct after all.

Despite only managing one walk, I did reach my Apple Watch’s Movement goal today. Okay, I did go on the elliptical for just over 15 minutes too. That went surprisingly well, honestly.

Tomorrow, if we aren’t getting lots of rain in the morning, I’ll likely go for a longer walk. A staff who walks quite fast works my one-on-one shift then. Last time we went on a walk together, I broke my speed record: 13 minutes 11 seconds per km. That’s not very fast, but it’s not slow either. Let’s hope for not much rain tomorrow morning.

#WeekendCoffeeShare (August 16, 2020)

It’s been several weeks since I last joined in with the #WeekendCoffeeShare community. I was thinking of doing a post earlier in the evening, but it was just too soaring hot in my room still. Now it’s past midnight, so technically Sunday and I’m joining in.

If we were having coffee, I would ask you how the weather is where you are, only to complain about the weather here. It’s been over 30°C here all week. Today was slightly cooler, but the humidity made it very exhausting. I’m almost hoping for some thunderstorms tonight. You know, I’m scared of them, but I really hate this heat.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my computer crashed on Monday. I guess it got hit with the heat too. It was fine again Tuesday after leaving it off for a night and is still fine now.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the woman who lives in the other home that’s part of my facility whom I often talk to, had her birthday on Thursday. I gifted her a keychain that I’d made and she loved it. She did feel a little uncomfortable when my staff asked her whether she’d like to have me visit sometime, but that’s because she needs time to process.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I made some delicious banana and strawberry milkshakes over the past few days.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I got a bargain on some peaches and blueberries at the local supermarket. They were three packages of fruit for €5. Blueberries are pretty expensive so I got a small package of those, but I got two large packages of peaches. They are the wild, flat kind of peaches and they’re delicious! I got them on Thursday. Though I ate all the blueberries that evening, I haven’t even emptied the first box of peaches yet.

If we were having coffee, I’d share that I talked to my nurse practitioner on Thursdday. I sent him some piece of writing I’d done for my staff about how I’m feeling. I left the link to my blog in my signature, which I’m not sure was the right thing to do. He said he’d been browsing around a bit. Of course, that made me feel uncomfortable, so I asked him whether he had some type of weird idea about me now. The main reason I asked is because he asked about the meaning of my blog URL, which of course refers to my seeing myself as multiple. I’m trying not to care, of course, and I won’t be censoring myself based on who might read my blog. I know this is a public blog so to be careful about my and especially others’ privacy.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have a ton of ideas for blog posts in my mind, but for whatever reason (the heat, maybe), I cannot quite concentrate enough to write them. I’m also thinking of finally starting up my journal writing prompts blog, which I registered with WordPress some months ago. I will post a formal announcement when/if this happens.

If we were having coffee, lastly I would tell you that my husband came by for a visit today. We’d originally planned for me to go to our house for a night, but my husband proposed we eat somewhere and go for a walk. We ended up getting a burger and milkshake at McDonald’s. The walk was short, as I didn’t want to walk in a forest because I had my sandals on and it was too hot and humid to walk anywhere else.

How have you been?
