Welcome to another #WeekendCoffeeShare post. I just had my afternoon coffee about an hour ago and am going to have a soft drink in a bit. Of course, I can still make you a Senseo if you want. Let’s have a drink and let’s catch up.
If we were having coffee, I’d say that I’m just about as well as it gets with respect to my cold. I am still a tiny bit sniffy, but I don’t think it gets any better anytime soon. I didn’t go to Lobith this weekend, even though my husband had promised me pizza at our house if I did. After all, yesterday I still wasn’t convinced I was well enough. Instead, my husband is coming over tomorrow.
If we were having coffee, I would say that this past week has been great in the walking department. Like I said yesterday, I’ve been quite active. Today was an exception, as it was raining on and off all day so far. I hope to still get some steps in this evening.
If we were having coffee, I would talk some about the political saga that unfolded after last week’s general election. The current prime minister, Mark Rutte, won the election again, probably because people are used to him doing the corona-related press conferences. Before the election, he’d hinted at some restrictions being lifted for Easter. Of course, that was just a political game to win voters, as in the last press conference, only the curfew got moved from 9PM till 10PM.
Speaking of the lockdown, my husband predicts from what he’s read that most of the restrictions will remain until mid-June. I really hope he’s wrong, but at least we can still see each other (provided neither of us is under the weather).
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’ve been loving reading other blogs as well as writing my own blog posts. I’m not yet preparing for the #AtoZChallenge. Maybe I should, as it’s in less than a week.
I’ve also been in contact with WP support again. The reason is the news that the classic editor might be disappearing after all. I’m not sure WP support itself knows what it’s doing, as I get mixed messages. I’m trying to let it go for now though, as so far at least I can still blog.
If we were having coffee, lastly I’d share that we might get new staff here in my care home soon. I think I mentioned last week that a male staff was having a look around our home last week Saturday to see if he wanted to work here. Turns out he does. He’s been orienting here a few more times. He used to work in a home for people with intellectual disability who also have complex care needs due to behavior. I got the impression he didn’t like that anymore, so I feared I’d scare him away from wanting to work here. Turns out he’s going to work in both homes.
Then on Thursday, another prospective staff, also male, toured my care home. The manager informed me in advance that he was coming, which I liked. I’ll be curious to know if he decides to work here.
What’s been going on in your life?
Sounds like you’re doing really good, we’ve just been dodging severe thunderstorms!

So glad to hear you’ve recovered from the cold, and sounds like you’ve had quite a good week overall. 🙂
Haven’t heard that about the classic editor disappearing completely but that would really be crappy. I’ve heard somewhere that WordPress was in trouble because of the Guthenberg editor evenn with some organisation which somehow deals with web accessibility, don’t know the ins and outs of it though. Sad that they didn’t learn from it.
There’s still an option to blog via email though, which I like, and I know about a Markdown editor for iOS called Byword which lets you write things and then you can publish them on your blog via this app, and it will convert it to a format that WordPress uses.
So there are still options. 🙂

Thank you for explaining all this. That app sounds interesting.
Unfortunately I seem to be getting more sniffy now, so I might have to cancel the visit from my hubby after all.

Ugh, that really sucks.
I hope it won’t get a lot worse at least.

I hope so too or I may need to self-isolate again, which really sucks.

That would be awful!

Yes, so true. My staff rely on my negative COVID test result two weeks ago, but I don’t know what the official guidelines say.

Hi Astrid. I try not to comment on it, but I still hate the new block editor.
Everything I try to use it I get frustrated with all the ways it slows down and disrupts my writing.
One thing I do that helps is to copy a small essay that I created with the classic editor and modify it with a new title and body of text.
I also know a bit about HTML and XML which is what the block editor is based on. Each week I need to switch from the block editor to the code editor to fix something that the block editor won’t do, so I hack the XLM by hand.
It annoys me – well, because I want to write, not code.
Grrrrr.
Anyway, that cold of yours is really hanging on and I’m sorry to hear this because it means you are likely feeling crummy each day. Water, good healthy food, rest and more rest would help, but I’m not sure you could control all that yourself anyway.
I hope this week proves to be a breakthrough in getting rid of that cold.
Blessings.

Thank you so much for commenting. I agree, I don’t usually write about the block editor or my frustrations with WordPress on my blog either, because it seems pointless.
I really hope my cold goes away soon indeed.

I am getting used to the new block editor. I think it still has at least one bug or glitch. If I click on ‘preview’ it says whoops can’t find page. At first, I was switching back to the classic but now I’m not.

Yes, I encountered that problem too. It works if you click preview again, I think. The problem with the block editor for me is that it’s not very accessible with screen readers.

Do you mean cell phone screens? I write on my laptop.

I’m not sure. I haven’t tried the block editor in a while.

Having a cold hang on and on is no fun for sure, especially in this time of COVID. I hope your symptoms improve or go away all together. Maybe when your hubby is able to come, he can bring you pizza? Hmm, how do you like your pizza? What sauce and toppings? Do you do ham and pineapple? Best and blessings, Michele

Thank you for commenting. My husband won’t be visiting after all, as I’m still too sniffy. As for pizza, I usually like mine hot and spicy with salami or pepperoni on it.

I am glad you are feeling better this week. I am doing okay. Had some achy moments this past week but it was taken care of (my hands tend to swell for number of reasons.
work is fine busy but fine. We are currently in the middle of contract negotations and Management is hoping we settle by the summer (In time for the students to arrive on the campus).
Life in the condo is going well. Just bought a new patio set that looks great but took forever to assemble (they said it should take 30 minutes-They lied )

Thank you… it would be great if we settled the contract early and without and any strikes because it is just not a good time.

I’m also a fan of the classic editor on WordPress. Just leave things be I say!
I hope your cold is better now and that you get to see your husband.
Take care and stay safe. X

I hope the staff decided to work in your care facility! I love reading blogs and writing my own too! I am currently sitting on my recliner, doing just that!

This staff didn’t end up working for my care home, but now we have another one who seems nice. Thank you for stopping by.
