The Wednesday Hodgepodge (January 17, 2024)

Hi everyone. This week’s Wednesday Hodgepodge is all Pooh-themed. How lovely! I can’t wait to read everyone else’s answers, but first I’ll write up my own.

1. On January 18th we commemorate A.A. Milne’s birthday. Milne is the author of the beloved classic Winnie the Pooh. In many ways Pooh represents innocence and simplicity. His optimism and ability to see beauty in everything reminds us to appreciate the little things. What are three little things you’re appreciating in mid-January?
Little things? Let me think. First, a visit from my mother-in-law. Second, a great bargain on a winter coat last Saturday. My spouse told me fall is the right time for buying a new winter coat, but I didn’t know back then that my old winter coat would get a tear in it in January. Thankfully, my new winter coat was not only on sale for just €30 but it was also much nicer than my old one. Third, phone calls with my spouse.

2. Piglet teaches us even the smallest of individuals can achieve big things with the proper amount of determination. How do your current responsibilities make you feel?
I feel pretty good about them. Sometimes, I feel ready to take on more responsibilities. We’ll have my care plan review on the 29th, so we’ll see what comes out of that.

3. Tigger is known for his enthusiasm and energy, his boundless joy and love of life. What’s something you’re interested in learning more about in this new year?
Too many things. I want to broaden my crafty horizons, learn more about personality-related topics such as the Enneagram, start cooking for my fellow residents, etc. Oh wait, the question was specific…

4. Eeyore, while a melancholy character, teaches us the importance of resilience and perseverance. How do you stay motivated and persevere in difficult circumstances.
I try to focus on self-care and also on positive activities that I enjoy. When I’m in a rut, I celebrate even the smallest of things I accomplish with respect to self-care.

5. Last thing you ate that was made with honey?
Not a food but a drink: a smoothie to which I added honey as a sweetener. I can’t remember the last thing with honey in it I actually ate. Maybe honey licorice, although that probably just has honey flavoring in it.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
No “Freezer Fiat” yet. For whatever reason, the license plate wasn’t ready yet, so we won’t get our new car till next week.

  1. Pursuing more creativity is on my list this year too. I’m not sure exactly when I let some of those hobbies go, but am determined to get back to some of them. Good luck with the car. I hope all the paperwork is in place soon.

  2. Hi Astrid, thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you get your plates soon so you can enjoy your car. To answer your question on Bible journaling. There are Bibles out there that have wide margins to take notes and or art of some kind to express what you are reading. I use a variety of things like watercolor, color pencil, acrylic paint, stickers and printables. There are Bibles that have a blank pages and others that have line art that you color in. I have study Bibles that I use just for study and not art work. There is a link at the top of my blog that has samples of my pages.

represents innocence and simplicity. His optimism and ability to see
beauty in everything reminds us to appreciate the little things. What
are three little things you’re appreciating in mid-January?
    1.1: clean streets without ice.
1.2: a ray of sunshine onmy back during fitness,
1.3: meeting my former colleague this morning again.

Piglet teaches us even the smallest of individuals can achieve big
things with the proper amount of determination. How do your current
    responsibilities make you feel?
They make me feel good. I am, and feel, responsible for several students
and it gives me pleasure that I’m able to teach them something.
Tigger is known for his enthusiasm and energy, his boundless joy and
love of life. What’s something you’re interested in learning more about
    in this new year?
Crocheting, or a new knitting pattern, or psychology.

resilience and perseverance. How do you stay motivated and persevere in
    difficult circumstances.
Hm: by just putting one foot in front of the other, not only literally
speaking. If the going gets tough, the tough keep going. And if things
can’t go as they should, they should go the way they can.
Last thing you ate that was made with honey?
Probably yoghurt with wallnuts and honey, a Greek dish.

I got 3 new students today and fitness went quite well this morning.
Sorry about the car! Freezer?????? Fiat? Brrrr. Sounds icy to me! Lol.

    1. “Freezer Fiat” is what my spouse and I nicknamed our soon-to-be new Fiat 500. I explained it in last week’s Wednesday Hodgepodge post. Thanks so much for sharing your answers.

    1. You love our license plate? I’m confused. Or did you think we ordered a custom one like in the U.S. some people do. That’s not a thing here and the license plate not being ready was totally the fault of the government agency that gives them out. “Freezer Fiat” is the car’s nickname, it won’t be on the license plate LOL.

        1. Ah LOL, I wish we had that here. No, here you can’t choose anything about your license plate, it’s a random combo of letters and numbers. Although I’ve heard people refuse a license plate because it had the initials of a loved one who passed away on it and in that case they did get another one.

  4. I love Winnie the Pooh! Eeyore is my favorite as I relate to him and his depression. I especially love the answer to that question you gave “I celebrate even the smallest of things I accomplish with respect to self care.” We have to see every accomplishment no matter how small.

    1. It was good indeed, though I think other sweeteners could’ve been better but we didn’t have those on hand. The smoothie originally didn’t have any sweetener in it, but I decided to add honey to balance out the other flavors, particularly cocoa powder. Thanks for stopping by.
