This morning, I read on a major Dutch news app that a dwarf planet had been discovered on the outskirts of our solar system, reducing the chances that there’s a ninth planet in our solar system to extremely low.
Wait… there are nine planets, right? That’s what I was taught in school and I’m not that old, am I? Or Maybe I am, since it’s been nearly 20 years since Pluto was officially declassified as a planet. It’s now a dwarf planet just like the newly-discovered one, even though Pluto is four times the size of this one.
That brings me to nostalgia in general. That time when Pluto was a planet, when there were 15 million people in the Netherlands… that’s a song, but there are now 18 million. I guess either time flies or I’m getting old or both, since there will always be 15 million people inn the Netherlands and Pluto will always be a planet. Oh, that’s rather ignorant.
This post was written for Stream of Consciousness Saturday, for which the prompt this week is “that time”. I’ve included the Spotify link to the song because YouTube doesn’t seem to work properly.
I’m still annoyed they downgraded Pluto 🙂

Me too LOL, but I’m pretty sure there’s some logical reason. The news article about the newly-discovered dwarf planet did explain it a bit, in fact.

Yes, I guess in future centuries they may revisit this (Pluto’s revenge maybe?)

LOL yes, who knows? And who knows what other currently-believed scientific facts they’re going to revisit.

Kiddos nowadays just know the eight planets. They’re not as concerned about Pluto. I never understood the big deal. Pluto still exists. It didn’t go anywhere. It’s just classified as something else now. Along with all the other dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt. Which are: Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris. (Plus there are many others that don’t have names yet.)

Ah yes, that’s true. My point though wasn’t really that Pluto is a planet (I know it isn’t), but that I’m getting older. Thanks for sharing the names of the other dwarf planets.

I remember when Pluto was made a dwarf planet and wondered briefly how many dwarf planets there were, but the thought past and life went on and I gave it no more thought. At least I didn’t think Pluto was just a dog

LOL about Pluto being just a dog, that’s such a silly thought. That being said, I didn’t even know what dwarf planets were until I read the news article yesterday.

I liked the snippet of song that played, sounded pretty good. I still think Pluto got a raw deal and should not be bullied out of the line up… but no one asked me, ha, ha!

No indeed, no-one asked me either. Re the song, I didn’t realize until I clicked the link that only registered users can listen to songs on Spotify. The YouTube video might’ve worked better after all.

I never knew they downgraded pluto to a dwarf planet! I was never good at science! Ha!

Yes, they downgraded it in 2006. I wasn’t good at science either, for what it’s worth.
