Gratitude List (August 7, 2020) #TToT

Happy Friday everyone! I still have a lot I want to write about, but it’s soaring hot here and my brain is melting. For this reason, I’m going with a relatively simple post and do a gratitude list. As always, I’m joining in with Ten Things of Thankful (#TToT).

1. Barbecues. My husband bought a mini barbecue last week and we had sausages on it on Saturday. To get some healthy food in us too, my husband served us both a full plate of cherry tomatoes. That was funny.

2. Ice cream. Lots of ice cream! Like I think I said last week, the freezer was still full of ice cream from my birthday and the previous time it was hot. Well, my staff bought even more and so we had ice cream for dessert or as an afternoon treat several days this past week.

3. New shoes. I ordered new walking boots on Monday and they arrived on Wednesday. They are a size bigger than the ones I had before, as those didn’t fit well anymore with my feet swelling. These are pretty cool.

4. Getting motivated to walk again. I signed up for Steptember, a sponsored walking/movement event in support of the cerebral palsy community. At first I wasn’t sure whether to sign up, as I can’t make it to 10K steps every single day of the event. However, my husband encouraged me. I can’t wait to start walking a lot again. Not now though, as it’s incredibly hot, like I said. By the way, I’m not sure there’s an English-language site where you can donate.

5. Liquorice. I bought a bag yesterday and had some tonight. Yes, I still had it unopened by then. Okay, full disclosure, I did also buy a bar of white chocolate and did eat that one, but oh well. Oh, how I loved the black liquorice!

6. Reading time. I actually finished a book this week that I’d started a long time ago. I loved sitting up late at night reading, as it was too hot to sleep.

7. My staff. I was feeling very much on edge for the first few days of the week. On Wednesday, I even had to take a lorazepam again to calm me down. However, all through it, my staff were so very supportive.

8. All the lovely comments I get on here. You all are so special. I’m also so happy to be motivated for writing a lot again this time around.

That’s it for now I guess. What are you grateful for?

  1. I am glad you have been encouraged to walk. Enjoy. That’s the important thing.

I have stocked up on ice-cream for later in the month, as well as ice-cream and ice lollies for now. To keep me cool this weekend, along with the fan, while watching dvd’s.

I like black or red liquorice. But black is my top favourite.

  2. I haven’t heard of Steptember, but that sounds like a great cause! I’m sure the new shoes will help with that; it’s no fun to walk in shoes that are too tight.

    1. I hadn’t heard of it until I joined the Dutch cerebral palsy charity either. It’s a worldwide event though. I’m sure my new shoes will help indeed.

  3. I can just picture that plate of cherry tomatoes. They are so good. They used to be my favorite of the little tomatoes, but now I prefer the grape tomatoes because they don’t tend to split as easily as the cherry tomatoes.
The black licorice that I enjoy the most is the soft black licorice that is often sold as Australian black licorice. I don’t buy it very often, but it is yummy.
Yay for new shoes that fit better.
I hope this next week is a little cooler for you.

    1. Thanks for commenting. I’ve never heard of Australian liquorice. I’ve also never heard of grape tomatoes. Maybe that’s what we had. What we had are called snack tomatoes actually.

I do hope the upcoming week is a bit cooler indeed. Not likely though. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I’m really looking forward to participating in Steptember. I have mild CP myself so it’s quite the challenge to actually get those 10K steps in everyday, but I’ll try.

  4. Sounds like a good week. Walking tends to be boring (to me) but the idea of doing it as part of an event involving other people sounds like it would be quite enjoyable.
    Have an excellent week ahead.

    1. Thank you. I actually love walking, but you can do other things (swimming, biking, etc.) to reach your step goal. Since some people with CP are in a wheelchair, even using that counts.

  5. I love black licorice, but I don’t like licorice flavored things, like jellybeans.
I love ice cream! I could eat it every day, probably 2 or 3 times a day! That’s why I rarely buy it at the grocery store – I can’t stay out of it!
I enjoy walking, but only when it isn’t hot. It’s been almost 100 degrees F here and very humid, so no walking outside for me for awhile!

    1. Wow, 100°F, that’s hot! I totally understand you aren’t up for walking then.

I rarely used to buy ice cream too, but my care staff buy it regularly.

I’ve never heard of licorice-flavored jellybeans.
