Hi everyone. It’s been over a week since I last wrote a post for my blog. I’ve had some ideas on my mind, but I’ve been battling what I believe could be COVID since Wednesday. Here in the Netherlands, all official precautions and regulations were ended in early 2023 and replaced with a recommendation to “use common sense”. Now my institution has always been rather careless when it comes to quarantining people suspected of having COVID and I myself am not the most sensible either when there are no rules.
On Wednesday, in fact, I was cooking burgers for the entire home when this whole thing started. I blame myself for several other clients and half the staff being sick now, but the staff say they would probably have caught it somewhere anyway, just like I probably caught it from a staff coming to work sick on Monday last week.
On Thursday, I was in bed all day, but I felt better on Friday, so I decided to go for several walks and a dance. Not a good idea if I indeed do have COVID, as not resting well enough can contribute to having long-term symptoms.
Saturday, I was in bed again for most of the day but dancing at 11PM in my room again in order to meet my movement goal on my Apple Watch. I then decided I really had to rest, so lowered my movement goal for that day and paused my rings altogether on Sunday until tomorrow.
I’m now feeling okay, but not nearly back to normal. Tomorrow, the Center for Consultation and Expertise consultant is coming. There are no longer any rules prohibiting them to visit me and several other staff are working while having symptoms now too. Besides, I didn’t have a say in inviting them, so I don’t feel in a position to cancel.
I do feel guilty for basically doing what everyone else is here, ie. living my life as if COVID is no longer a threat. I know, I don’t know whether I actually have COVID since testing is no longer a thing here either, but I definitely feel this is more than just a very nasty cold.
Sorry you might have covid, can you buy a test, at a store, and have a staff administer it? They still sell the test kits. At least, they do here. X

Thanks for your kind comment. I could technically maybe do this, but since the institution’s policy currently is no testing unless the GP wants it, I’m not sure a staff would be willing to help me with it. Besides, what good would knowing whether I have COVID do now?

I think most of us have put Covid in the past

True but that’s not necessarily right. It’s not like the virus no longer exists, more like it’s now in its endemic stage like the flu and like might I say TB used to be too.

I think most people just get on with their lives now but it still like the booegy man under the bed. When I caught it I never knew I had it for several days so I was still circulating. I just had a very salty taste in my mouth… I felt really bad for being a spreader.
Do you have the COVID and FLU injections?
Hope you make a full and speedy recovery.

Thankfully yes, we do get the COVID and flu vaccines. I never used to get the flu jab until the pandemic hit, when I decided that I’d rather not catch the flu even though I’m not at high risk of serious complications just because this was before self-tests for COVID and I wanted to avoid having to isolate for days until the official test came back if I could.

It’s interesting that you are the third blog friend this week who has (probably has) COVID. In the US, we have kits readily available for testing and there are guidelines of when to isolate, although they are nearly as rigid as before.
I hope you feel much better soon.

Oh, I’m so sorry other blog friends have been having (possible) COVID. Actually, yes, there are still guidelines here about when to isolate, but they are just suggestions or at least that’s how most people interpret them.

Yeah it seems like most think of Covid as just something you may get like the flu and they think neither can really do you any harm, when in fact both can do a lot of harm.

Oh dear I hope you are feeling better now Astrid. Covid is definitely still a thing, and we keep hearing about people getting it. We visit friends in aged care, and you have to do a covid test EVERY single time! But very worth it to keep everyone safe. Take care.
cheers

Oh I hope you are fairing better now. I have not experienced covid (unless I was asymptomatic) but do know it is still out there and can be very dangerous, just like the flu. Take good care of yourself and get plenty of rest!
