In an ideal world…
I’d get all the care I needed,
From all staff I trusted.
I’d be able to engage
In activities I enjoy-
Crafting, baking, walking, swimming.
Without a care in the world.
I’d live closer to my spouse
If not together.
Sigh…
In an ideal world…
This post was written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt, which this week is “ideal”. I realize that my dreams for an ideal world are a bit childish and rather self-centered. The piece was based on the thing I at one point told staff at my old home: that, in an ideal world, I’d get one-on-one all day long. This isn’t actually true, since I need alone time to read and blog and phone my spouse, for instance. However, I do feel there are ways in which my care could be improved. Some of them might be realistic, while others fall into the category of “in an ideal world”.
Sorry your care falls short Astrid! xo

It falls short for everyone. That’s the reality of life in 2023. I am lucky to still have my extra one-on-one support at least. I once read a comment by some type of politician or government official or something about cuts to long-term care, that reasonably good care for two people is preferable to excellent care for one. While in theory I agree, with all the previous cuts to care I am pretty sure no-one really got excellent care within the last fifteen to twenty years. And for clarity’s sake, this is not the staff’s fault, it’s really the government’s.

I hope you get your ideal one day.

I honestly don’t believe I will. Things are okay as they are now, but to say I was spoiled when things were better, which some of my old care home staff did say, is far from the truth.

I think our greatest strength lies in adapting to our circumstances.

I’m not too sure that’s really that much of a strength of mine. I’ve gotten slightly better at it over the years though.

Another one well done. I wonder, is there a difference between an ideal world and a perfect world? 🙂
